A Christmas Day sea swimming event was cancelled by a Council and health and safety was cited as the reason in subsequent press coverage.
This case does not concern health and safety legislation preventing the activity taking place. Sea swimming in winter conditions can be dangerous especially for anyone who is inexperienced, not wearing the right gear or intoxicated. The organisers, based on their experience appear to have decided to cancel this particular event because it would be difficult for them to prevent such people joining in the event. This is a shame for those who are regular participants but on balance seems a valid decision for them to take.
