This Consultative Document sets out proposals from HSE to amend the Freight Containers (Safety Convention) Regulations 1984 to give effect to amendments made to the International Convention for Safe Containers 1972. In 1978 the UK ratified the Convention and by ratifying agreed to be bound by the treaty and its terms in accordance with international law.
In the main, the amendments introduce significant physical changes to the Safety Approval Plates on freight containers and additional safety tests.
The proposed amendments will be of particular interest to container manufacturers and shipping operators who work with Approved Continuous Examination Programmes.
This consultation invites views on HSE’s proposals to amend the Freight Containers (Safety Convention) Regulations 1984. The proposed changes give effect to the amendments made to the International Convention for Safe Containers 1972 and introduce changes to the Safety Approval Plate and additional safety tests. The proposed new regulations will be known as Freight Containers (Safety Convention) (Amended)Regulations 2016.
Consultation began on 18 January 2016 and closes on 26 February 2016.
