Event overview

Jobs such as cutting paving slabs or roof tiles, carpentry, wall chasing, grinding, sanding and sweeping are all high risk if control measures are not in place. Breathing in construction dusts can cause lung cancer, silicosis, asthma and COPD. Currently, over 500 construction workers are believed to die each year as a result of exposure to silica dust alone.

These events will give up to date information to managers, supervisors, workers and health and safety consultants on:

  • Types of construction dusts and their impact on your health
  • How and where workers are exposed
  • Removing dust at source workshop – to include demonstrations from Hilti and Brandon Tool Hire in the selection and use of tools using dust extraction systems and water suppression
  • Selection and use of face masks workshop – with demonstrations from 3M and Arco Ltd
